Last Vamp Standing picks up immediately after Vamped Up ends. Savage is still annihilating every haven he finds in an attempt to absorb as many mawares that he can. The vamps of Crimson Bay have found out about a hidden haven, Black Moon. It has always been a hidden sanctuary for elders only. Now the havenless vampires need a place to hide from Savage and the hidden elders are going to need help in defending themselves from Savage. Joining forces would make sense, but nothing is ever that simple.
Dante quickly became my favorite hero in this series. He is so tortured by the things that he does not know or understand about himself. He is tormented by guilt over someone he has harmed in his past. He has learned how to manipulate his hungers in an effort to feed them without harming innocents. No matter what Dante does though he can’t get the hungers to completely go away and at the end of the day he is still alone in this world. He is so all around yummy!
I liked Ariana as a heroine. She has sacrificed much for her haven at Black Moon. She has spent her time finding elders and bringing them into Black Moon. Her maware allows her an advantage in this task. It is her visits to the black market in her hunt for elders that lands Dante in her life. She soon discovers that she can’t get him out of her thoughts. She knows he is hiding something from her. The more time that she spends with him the more she wants to know about those secrets.
Last Vamp Standingwraps up in a way that I’m left feeling like this could be the end of the series. I’m wondering if Vampires of Crimson Bay is in fact a trilogy. I’ve enjoyed this series from the very beginning. I have to admit that I am a sucker for prophecies and lost texts that reveal cryptic messages. Many of the characters in this series have turned out to be something more or something different than they had assumed. These are the mysterious elements that have made this series such pleasurable reads.
