Samantha, Sam, Dorsey is a space captain leading her crew throughout space on a scavenger hunt.  The last item on their list is a wild beast from primitive planet.  They land on Qurilixen to capture a beast, not knowing that it is inhabited by to races of shifters, the Var and the Draig.  While on planet they find a large white tiger and capture him and take him back on board their ship. Little do they know they just captured the Prince Falke of Var while he was shifted.

I really enjoy this series. Prince Falke has been a favorite of mine since the first book and I was not disappointed in his story.  He is a very quite, understated man who hides his thoughts and feelings from others since he feels so deeply, a trait from his mother’s people the Roane.  Sam is a firecracker. She is half human half Tircara, a race that has healing abilities.  She binds herself to Falke but doesn’t tell him because she is worried that he will not want her.

This book takes a slightly different approach to the Lords of Var series by being set almost entirely off the Var’s home planet Qurilixen and I loved it!  We get to see more of the world that Pillow has created and all the different races she has added in this book was interesting.  I loved the parts of the book where the crew interact. They are like a happy dysfunctional family of mixed races but they compliment each other. I most especially liked Evan and Devil, I would like to see more about what happens to then in later books.
